Here's why Minecraft Java Edition is Better than Bedrock

Somethings are better than others. Chocolate is better than vanilla, Nvidia is better than Radeon, and everybody has a favorite K-pop star. What's not as clear is the right choice when it comes to versions of Minecraft. I'm not talking of Minecraft Educational or Minecraft Dungeons, but the age old question of Java Vs Bedrock. Old-school Notch mode vs Monetized Microsoft, that's what it comes down to for some people, but if you're on the fence about choosing a version, or maybe looking to hop to the other side, then read on. I'm going to give you the 100% biased and possibly racist facts about Minecraft Java Edition. Buckle your hat, pilgrim. 

Minecraft Multiplayer - Lockdown Social Mingling

Playing Minecraft on single player is always an option, but even the most awkward introvert can reach out from their comfy solitude to join a Minecraft Multiplayer server if not share their own game with some friends and family, it's a great kind of casual multiplayer that won't invoke the screaming matches of hectic survival like games of The Forest or Valheim. Now playing Minecraft on either Bedrock or Java has some similarities, like the large open servers and small online games between friends, but both of Minecraft's main iterations have a few key differences. 

At a glance, the advantage goes to Minecraft Bedrock Edition. It's got the most options in terms of cross-platform compatibility, supporting all manner of consoles and mobile devices, though in a lot of cases you'd end up buying the game over again. Minecraft Java Edition is far less crossplay friendly, though you've got far more options when it comes to multiplayer. Firstly there's a wealth of varied Minecraft servers to enjoy the Java iteration on. More servers means more places to play, but also more ways to play, as Minecraft Java has a mind boggling number of mods compared to the much more restricted Bedrock experience. 

Minecraft Modding Scene - Java Only

Minecraft Bedrock Edition does have some mods and texture packs to choose from, some of them for pay. Minecraft Java Edition takes the cake here, with a wealth of mods ranging from UI tweaks to massive modpacks that add anything from dinosaurs to Pokemon. Installing mods can be as easy as point-and-click if you've got a mod manager like CursedForge, all for free. This is one old standby's of the pro pc gaming argument: "we get mods and you don't". Choosing the Bedrock Edition for your PC doesn't play to this strength and you'll be left waiting for the Cave Update like everybody else, if you want new content, the modding community has it, only on Java. 

The texture packs and shaders mirror the mod situation. There's lots of graphical content to choose from on the Java Edition and if your frame rate starts to stutter, just install Optifine to smooth things out before you start turning down that resolution. Raytracing is exclusive to Bedrock right now, but even if you've got the graphics card to support this, you'll still be trading it for all the other content that Minecraft Java Edition has to offer. It'll be a nice looking game that doesn't even let you hold items in your off-hand, something that should be possible on both versions even without mods. Maybe in the future Steve's left hand will be paid DLC, lame. 

In Conclusion...

Minecraft Java and Minecraft Bedrock are far from equal. If you're constrained to a console than Bedrock is your only choice, but if you're a member of the PC Master Race, then there's only one right choice, the Java Edition. There's a heart-wrenching scenario where some sibling or friend is constrained to Bedrock. In that case you'll just have to abandon them.
