Backlog Busting Into April!

For obvious reasons in 2020 we're all spending more time at home, for a single guy with some time off work this means I'll be ranking the 10 hottest videos on P......

Oh wait, I played some PC games too.

Bullshot, The game is 'Meh' and that ain't no bull!

From publisher and developer Gato Studio, Bullshot checked the boxes for "indie diamond in the rough" But in actuality it was really just rough. Play as Frank .F Franky, an anthropomorphic bull and member of the Bulls of Anarchy resistance group of 'Valerians'. Your 2d targets are the legions of evil Cardasians, no, not the ones with the giant butts, the humanoid rat people that dress like WW1 German Stormtroopers, similar I know. I would make a joke here about racism, but I'm far too lazy for that, just like those dirty valerian criminals.

I purchased Bullshot for pennies, so can't say I was ripped off. The game is just okay-ish, there are a few pop-culture references, a score feature, bossfights, bonus stages,  and filter modes to emulate CRT monitors and televisions.  Graphics feature some slick retro filters, but really underneath are typical indie game fare, so without using actual pixel graphics it leaves me wondering what period of 2d shooters it's inspired by. It's like the game is torn between originality and nostalgia. Bullshot really controls like a more modern 2d shooter, full mouse aim, a use key, charge dash. Franky has a lot of modern tricks up his sleeve to fight the Skaven...I mean "Cardesian" baddies.

Bullshots game mechanics were a little confusing, mostly because I skipped the tooltips and Bull-rushed right into the action. I have to admit it was pretty fun sprinting into enemies to kill them, though I did have a gun with multiple fire modes. The objective is to reach the end of the level and face off with some big dumb boss. This serves as a microcosm of the game itself, the final level is a laughably broken boss, not that the game was a breeze, it kept my thumbs thumbing for 4.6 hours. Vlalue!

Cat Quest, Pussy Cat!

A while ago I went a cat themed buying spree and saw a cutesy rpg developed by The GentleBros and published by PQube Limited. Initially Cat Quest had me intrigued. It definitely pays homage to games like Zelda and Skyrim. From the outside its a novel experience with an abundance of cat puns.
It was engaging enough to finish.

About mid game, Cat Quest has shown all it has to offer, clearly the game is aimed to more casual players, really calling this an rpg or aarpg is a bit of a stretch. Every mission leads to some combat, either outdoors or in a cave. There is player leveling and equipment/magic leveling, but this is about as deep as dps and defense. Luckily the game is short enough that it isn't too repetitive taking me about 5 hours to beat.

The ending was pretty satisfying, there's a heartfelt message about the bond between owners and their pets, pretty good game. I have Cat Quest 2, so I'm itching to see if it's a more developed or complex addition to the genre, stay tuned for that one.

Deep Space Waifu, World and Fantasy!

I sometimes fantasize about not being a pervert

The deep space Waifu series is something of a guilty pleasure, a curiosity turned collection, a pastime turned passion. Developer/publisher Neko Climax Studios has released 5 in the series so far with one more (DSW: Legends) on the way. As of writing this I've beat all five titles.

I can never decide to post about these games. Definitely for perverts, the Deep Space Waifu game series is a modern shmup that involves removing the clothing of some giant anime girls while warding a bunch of enemy spaceships. Underneath the curvy exterior of the sleazy shmup is what I find to be some solid arcade action at a low price, I definitely have better games in my backlog, but hammering these titles only takes a few hours each. Not to mention, DSW may have a nude patch and I may have installed it.

Currently the only controller I have without horrendous stick drift is from my ps4, otherwise I've got two busted Logitech and one busted Xbox 360 (well used though). I have a new controller on the way and this will open up some genres to me, maybe even a hardware review, but that's whole other post.

In Closing

So March/Early April has been pretty decent backlog wise, not great, but everyone has time constraints, not to mention the constant urge to just chill in Minecraft. E3 2020 is canceled, but there's still sales and lots to play this year. That means I'll be coming at ya with some more games. Stay tuned , comrades!
